court-martial of the sole surviving officer of Her Majesty's frigate Artemis. Kydd knows what happened the night Artemis
went down. His evidence can destroy an officer's career--and, as it turns out, his own. When Kydd and his shipmate
Nicholas Renzi are forcibly shipped off to the Caribbean, a whole new set of challenges lies in wait. From the dockyards
of Antigua to the shores of Guadeloupe, from warring French and English battleships to a death-defying voyage aboard the
plucky naval cutter Seaflower, Kydd's mettle under fire--as a sailor and a man--will receive the ultimate test.

 
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Julian Stockwin was born 15 January 1944 and wanted to go to sea ever since he could remember. His mother said that as
a toddler he went up to sailors on the street, and on one occasion dragged home a dead seabird because it smelled of the
sea! He was entranced when his great uncle Tom Clay, a seaman in square-rigged ships who had sailed around the Horn in
the "Cutty Sark", took him over this ship. As a young boy he read everything about the sea and was especially
terrified by a description of a great storm, but longed to go to sea to experience one.
He won a scholarship to a grammar school, but his mind was captivated by seeing low grey shapes far out to sea,
outward bound to who knew where. He passed this sight every day on my way to school; his scholastic performance
suffered!
In the hope of having the nonsense knocked out of him, his father sent him to a tough sea-training
school. This only strengthened his resolve for a life at sea and at fifteen he joined the Royal Navy. 
After
leaving the Navy (rated Petty Officer) he practised as an educational psychologist. He worked for some time in Hong
Kong, where he was commissioned into the Royal Naval Reserve.

READER
Christian Rodska (born September 5, 1945 in Northumberland) is a versatile British actor who has appeared in
many television and radio series and narrated a number of audiobooks.
He enjoys audio books "because the
listener can absorb a novel in conditions that don?t require specifically sitting down to read," he explains.
"I love the thought that audio books make every genre of literature accessible to people in  all walks of life who,
in some circumstances, may not necessarily have time to read and may come upon works they may never have dreamed of
approaching.
